The title of this work is ‘Delusion Prophecy of Modern Day Paredolia’. It was produced from a combination of medium 90 degree inverted burn, direct petrol burn and pyrographic printing (using metal blocks). Originally made in 2016 as a prototype fully from heat/ fire based on the principles of thermodynamics, that is, through the exchange of energy where heat is the main medium in image production and transfer in print art. This work, measuring 182x244cm, was inspired by an article from the 20th century sociologist, Robert K. Merton where he states that “Self-Fulfilling Prophecy”, ‘is the beginning, a false definition of the situation evoking a new behaviour which makes the original false conception come true’. Elsewhere he further explains that it “is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, but the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behaviour”.
